Eugene IV
Eugene IV was a pope who served from 1431 to 1447. Born as Gabriele Condulmer in Venice, he was elected pope during a time of significant political and religious challenges in Europe. His papacy is noted for efforts to reunite the Catholic Church with the Eastern Orthodox Church and for his involvement in the Council of Florence, which aimed to address various church reforms.
During his reign, Eugene IV faced opposition from various factions, including the Roman nobility and the Council of Basel. Despite these challenges, he worked to strengthen the papacy and promote the Renaissance culture, supporting the arts and education throughout his time as pope.
