Edward FitzGerald was an English poet and translator, best known for his version of the Persian poet Omar Khayyam's work, titled The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam. Born on March 31, 1809, in Woodbridge, Suffolk, he was educated at Cambridge University and developed a passion for literature and languages.
FitzGerald's translation of The Rubaiyat was published in 1859 and gained popularity for its lyrical beauty and philosophical depth. His work introduced many Western readers to Persian poetry and culture, making him a significant figure in the literary world of the 19th century. He passed away on June 14, 1883.
