Edgar the Atheling
Edgar the Atheling was a claimant to the English throne in the 11th century. Born around 1051, he was the grandson of King Edmund II, also known as Edmund Ironside. After the death of King Edward the Confessor in 1066, Edgar was named king by some nobles, but he was unable to secure the throne due to the invasion of William the Conqueror.
Following the Norman Conquest, Edgar fled to Scotland and later returned to England. He was eventually granted lands and titles but never ruled as king. Edgar's lineage continued to play a role in English history, particularly through his descendants.
