Duchy of Navarre
The Duchy of Navarre was a historical territory located in the northern part of the Iberian Peninsula, primarily in what is now northern Spain and southwestern France. It emerged in the early Middle Ages and became a significant political entity, known for its unique culture and strategic location. The duchy was ruled by a series of monarchs, including the famous King Sancho VII, who played a crucial role in the Reconquista.
In the late 15th century, the Duchy of Navarre was incorporated into the Kingdom of Spain after the conquest by Ferdinand II of Aragon and Isabella I of Castile. Despite this, the region retained a degree of autonomy and its own laws for some time. Today, the historical legacy of the Duchy is reflected in the modern Navarre region, which maintains a distinct identity within Spain.
