Domenico Fontana
Domenico Fontana was an Italian architect and engineer born in 1543 in Sicily. He is best known for his work in Rome, where he played a significant role in the construction of several important buildings and monuments during the late Renaissance period. Fontana is particularly famous for relocating the Obelisk of Saint Peter in 1586, a monumental task that showcased his engineering skills.
In addition to his work on the obelisk, Fontana designed the Palazzo della Cancelleria and contributed to the construction of the Vatican and other notable structures. His innovative techniques and designs had a lasting impact on architecture in Italy and beyond, making him a key figure in the history of Renaissance architecture.
