Developmental Reflexes
Developmental reflexes are automatic responses that infants exhibit in reaction to specific stimuli. These reflexes are crucial for survival and development, helping babies interact with their environment. Examples include the Moro reflex, where a baby flings their arms out and then retracts them in response to a sudden movement or noise, and the rooting reflex, which helps infants find food by turning their head toward a touch on the cheek.
These reflexes typically emerge during the first few months of life and gradually fade as the child grows and gains more voluntary control over their movements. The presence and strength of these reflexes can provide important insights into a child's neurological development and overall health.
