Desensitization
Desensitization is a psychological process where an individual becomes less sensitive to a stimulus after repeated exposure. This can occur in various contexts, such as in therapy for phobias or anxiety disorders. For example, a person afraid of dogs may gradually be exposed to them in a controlled environment, reducing their fear over time.
In addition to therapy, desensitization can also happen in everyday life. For instance, frequent exposure to violent content in media can lead to a diminished emotional response. This means that individuals may become less shocked or disturbed by violence, affecting their perceptions and reactions in real-life situations.
