Cyclopia
Cyclopia is a rare congenital condition where an individual is born with a single eye or a fused eye structure. This condition occurs due to abnormal development during early pregnancy, specifically affecting the formation of the forebrain. Cyclopia is often associated with other severe malformations and is usually not compatible with life.
The condition is named after the mythical Cyclops, a one-eyed giant from Greek mythology. Cyclopia can be detected through prenatal imaging techniques, but it is extremely rare, with only a few documented cases. Most affected individuals do not survive long after birth due to the associated complications.
