Congenital Absence of the Uterus
Congenital Absence of the Uterus, also known as Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser (MRKH) syndrome, is a rare condition where a female is born without a uterus. This condition can occur alongside other reproductive tract anomalies and may affect the development of the vagina and ovaries. Women with this condition typically have normal external genitalia and secondary sexual characteristics but may experience challenges with menstruation and fertility.
Diagnosis often occurs during adolescence when menstruation does not begin. Imaging techniques, such as ultrasound or MRI, can help confirm the absence of the uterus. While women with this condition cannot carry a pregnancy, options like surrogacy or adoption are available for those wishing to become parents.
