Clutter Murder
"Clutter Murder" refers to the 1959 killing of Herb Clutter, a prosperous farmer, his wife Bonnie Clutter, and their two teenage children, Nancy and Kenyon, in Holcomb, Kansas. The crime was committed by two ex-convicts, Richard "Dick" Hickock and Perry Smith, who believed the Clutters had a safe filled with cash.
The case gained national attention and was later chronicled in Truman Capote's book, "In Cold Blood," which is considered a pioneering work of true crime literature. The brutal nature of the murders and the subsequent trial highlighted issues of violence and mental health in America.
