CiU
CiU, or Convergència i Unió, was a political coalition in Catalonia, Spain, formed in 1978. It combined two parties: Convergència Democràtica de Catalunya (CDC) and Unió Democràtica de Catalunya (UDC). The coalition aimed to promote Catalan nationalism and advocate for greater autonomy within Spain.
Throughout its history, CiU played a significant role in Catalan politics, often leading the regional government. The coalition was known for its center-right policies and focus on economic development. However, it began to decline in the 2010s, leading to its eventual dissolution in 2015, as the parties pursued separate paths.
