Convergència i Unió
Convergència i Unió (CiU) was a political coalition in Catalonia, Spain, formed in 1978. It primarily consisted of two parties: Convergència Democràtica de Catalunya (CDC) and Unió Democràtica de Catalunya (UDC). The coalition aimed to promote Catalan nationalism and advocate for greater autonomy within Spain.
CiU played a significant role in Catalan politics, especially during the 1980s and 1990s, when it governed the Catalan Generalitat. The coalition focused on economic development, social policies, and the preservation of Catalan culture. In 2015, CiU dissolved, with its parties continuing to operate independently.
