Chojun Miyagi
Chojun Miyagi was a prominent Okinawan martial artist, best known for founding the Goju-Ryu style of karate. Born on April 25, 1888, in Okinawa, Japan, he began training in martial arts at a young age and studied under various masters, including Kanryo Higaonna. His teachings emphasized the importance of both hard and soft techniques, which is reflected in the name "Goju," meaning "hard-soft."
Miyagi played a significant role in popularizing karate outside of Okinawa. He established the first Goju-Ryu dojo in 1930 and contributed to the development of karate as a formalized martial art. His legacy continues through the many students and practitioners who follow his teachings today.
