Chilean Forests
Chilean forests are diverse ecosystems primarily located in the temperate regions of Chile. They are characterized by a mix of native tree species, including the iconic Araucaria araucana, commonly known as the monkey puzzle tree, and the Nothofagus genus, which includes several beech species. These forests provide habitat for various wildlife and play a crucial role in carbon storage.
The forests are divided into different types, such as the Valdivian temperate rainforests in the south and the Mediterranean forests in the central region. These areas face threats from deforestation, climate change, and invasive species, making conservation efforts essential for their preservation.
