Chagossians
The Chagossians are the indigenous people of the {Chagos Archipelago}, a group of islands in the Indian Ocean. In the 1960s and 1970s, they were forcibly removed from their homes by the {British government} to make way for a military base on {Diego Garcia}, one of the islands. This displacement has led to ongoing legal and humanitarian issues for the Chagossian community.
Today, many Chagossians live in exile, primarily in {Mauritius} and the {United Kingdom}. They continue to seek recognition of their rights and the right to return to their homeland. The plight of the Chagossians highlights issues of colonialism and human rights.
