{Chagos Archipelago
The Chagos Archipelago is a group of over 60 small islands located in the central Indian Ocean. It is part of the British Indian Ocean Territory and is known for its stunning coral reefs and diverse marine life. The largest island, Diego Garcia, hosts a significant military base used by the United States.
The archipelago has a complex history, particularly regarding the displacement of the Chagossians, the indigenous people who were removed in the 1960s and 1970s to make way for the military base. Today, the islands are largely uninhabited, with environmental conservation efforts ongoing to protect their unique ecosystems.
