Cervical Changes
Cervical changes refer to the alterations that occur in the cervix, the lower part of the uterus, during various stages of a woman's life, particularly during the menstrual cycle, pregnancy, and childbirth. These changes can include variations in the cervical mucus, position, and firmness of the cervix, which can indicate fertility or readiness for labor.
During pregnancy, the cervix undergoes significant changes to support the developing fetus. It becomes softer and may produce a mucus plug to protect the uterus. As labor approaches, the cervix dilates and effaces, allowing for the passage of the baby during childbirth.
