Carlist claimants
The term "Carlist claimants" refers to individuals who assert their right to the Spanish throne based on the Carlist succession. This movement originated in the 19th century, primarily supporting the claims of the House of Bourbon against the House of Savoy, which was represented by the reigning monarchs of Spain. The Carlists believed that the legitimate heir to the throne was Carlos María Isidro de Borbón, who opposed the liberal reforms of the time.
Throughout history, several Carlist claimants emerged, each representing different branches of the Carlist movement. Notable claimants include Don Jaime de Borbón and Don Sixto Enrique de Borbón. The Carlist claims have led to several civil wars in Spain, known as the Carlist Wars, as supporters sought to establish a traditional monarchy based on their interpretation of Spanish heritage and governance.
