Bulgarian National Movement
The Bulgarian National Movement was a significant effort in the 19th century aimed at achieving national independence and cultural revival for the Bulgarian people. It emerged in response to centuries of Ottoman rule and sought to promote Bulgarian language, education, and identity. Key figures in this movement included Vasil Levski and Hristo Botev, who played crucial roles in advocating for liberation.
The movement culminated in the April Uprising of 1876, which, despite being suppressed, drew international attention to Bulgaria's plight. This eventually led to the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878, resulting in the establishment of the Principality of Bulgaria and a significant step towards national sovereignty.
