April Uprising
The April Uprising was a significant revolt that took place in Bulgaria in April 1876. It aimed to liberate the country from Ottoman Empire rule and was part of a broader movement for national independence. The uprising was marked by a series of coordinated attacks and declarations of independence in various regions, but it was met with harsh repression by Ottoman forces.
Despite its failure, the April Uprising drew international attention to the plight of the Bulgarian people. The brutal response from the Ottomans led to widespread outrage in Europe, ultimately contributing to the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878, which resulted in the liberation of Bulgaria.
