Breast Self-Exam
A Breast Self-Exam (BSE) is a simple procedure that allows individuals to check their own breasts for any unusual changes. It involves looking at and feeling the breasts for lumps, changes in size, or any other abnormalities. Regular self-exams can help in early detection of potential issues, including breast cancer.
To perform a BSE, stand in front of a mirror and visually inspect your breasts for any changes in shape or skin texture. Then, use your fingers to gently feel the entire breast area, including the underarm. It is recommended to perform a self-exam monthly, ideally a few days after your menstrual period.
