Bourbon Restoration
The Bourbon Restoration refers to the period in French history from 1814 to 1830 when the monarchy was reestablished after the fall of Napoleon Bonaparte. This era began with the return of King Louis XVIII, who sought to balance royal authority with the constitutional changes made during the French Revolution.
The restoration faced challenges, including political divisions and economic difficulties. It ended with the July Revolution of 1830, which led to the abdication of King Charles X, Louis XVIII's brother, and the establishment of the Orleanist monarchy under Louis-Philippe.
