Louis XVIII
Louis XVIII was the King of France from 1814 to 1824, except for a brief period during the Hundred Days in 1815 when Napoleon Bonaparte returned to power. He was the younger brother of Louis XVI, who was executed during the French Revolution. Louis XVIII sought to stabilize France after years of turmoil and implemented a constitutional monarchy.
During his reign, Louis XVIII issued the Charter of 1814, which established civil liberties and a parliamentary system. His government faced challenges from both royalists and republicans, but he managed to maintain relative peace and continuity in France until his death in 1824.
