Bombyx
Bombyx is a genus of moths known for their role in silk production. The most famous species, Bombyx mori, is the domesticated silkworm that has been cultivated for thousands of years. These moths undergo a complete metamorphosis, transitioning from eggs to larvae (caterpillars), then to pupae, and finally to adult moths.
Silkworms primarily feed on the leaves of the mulberry tree. After reaching maturity, they spin cocoons made of silk fibers, which are harvested for silk production. This process has significant economic importance, especially in countries like China and India, where silk is a valuable textile.
