Bodoland Movement
The Bodoland Movement is a political and social movement in the northeastern Indian state of Assam. It aims to create a separate state for the Bodo ethnic group, who seek greater autonomy and recognition of their cultural identity. The movement has its roots in the demand for self-determination and has been marked by protests and negotiations with the Indian government.
The movement gained momentum in the 1980s, leading to the formation of the Bodo Territorial Region in 2020, which granted limited autonomy. Despite this, many Bodo leaders and activists continue to advocate for full statehood, reflecting ongoing tensions over land, resources, and cultural rights in the region.
