Basalt Columns
Basalt columns are natural rock formations created when lava cools and solidifies. As the molten rock cools, it contracts and fractures into hexagonal shapes, forming tall, vertical columns. These columns can vary in size and are often found in areas with volcanic activity.
One of the most famous examples of basalt columns is Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland, which features around 40,000 interlocking columns. Other notable locations include Devil's Postpile in California and Fingal's Cave in Scotland. These formations are not only geologically significant but also attract many visitors for their unique beauty.
