Atlantic Rainforest
The Atlantic Rainforest, also known as the Mata Atlântica, is a diverse tropical rainforest located along the southeastern coast of Brazil. It stretches from the state of Rio Grande do Sul in the south to Maranhão in the north, covering approximately 1.3 million square kilometers. This ecosystem is known for its rich biodiversity, housing thousands of plant and animal species, many of which are endemic.
Despite its ecological importance, the Atlantic Rainforest has faced significant deforestation due to urbanization, agriculture, and logging. Today, only about 12% of the original forest remains, making conservation efforts crucial for preserving its unique wildlife and plant life.
