Argyle mine
The Argyle mine is a famous diamond mine located in the East Kimberley region of Western Australia. It was opened in 1983 and is known for producing a significant quantity of pink and brown diamonds. The mine operates as an open-pit mine and has been one of the largest sources of natural diamonds in the world.
In November 2020, the Argyle mine officially closed after nearly 40 years of operation. The closure marked the end of an era for diamond mining in Australia, as the mine was responsible for about 90% of the world's pink diamonds. The site is now being rehabilitated to restore the natural environment.
