Ahn Jung-geun
Ahn Jung-geun was a Korean independence activist born on September 2, 1879, in Haeju, Korea. He is best known for his assassination of Ito Hirobumi, a former Prime Minister of Japan, in 1909. Ahn believed that this act would help Korea gain independence from Japanese colonial rule.
After the assassination, Ahn was captured and tried by the Japanese authorities. He was executed on March 26, 1910, but remains a symbol of resistance against oppression in Korea. His legacy is honored in various ways, including monuments and memorials, reflecting his commitment to Korean sovereignty.
