Agave Americana
Agave Americana, commonly known as the century plant, is a large succulent native to Mexico and the southwestern United States. It features thick, fleshy leaves that can grow up to 6 feet long and are edged with sharp spines. This plant is known for its striking rosette shape and can reach heights of up to 10 feet when in bloom.
The century plant gets its name from its long growth cycle, often taking 10 to 30 years to flower. After blooming, it produces a tall flower stalk that can reach up to 30 feet, after which the plant typically dies. Agave Americana is also used to produce tequila and mezcal.
