African Catfish
The African Catfish, scientifically known as Clarias gariepinus, is a freshwater fish native to various regions in Africa and parts of the Middle East. It is recognized for its elongated body, large head, and whisker-like barbels that help it sense its environment. This species can grow quite large, reaching lengths of up to 1.5 meters and weights of over 60 kilograms.
African Catfish are highly adaptable and can thrive in diverse habitats, including rivers, lakes, and swamps. They are also known for their ability to breathe air, allowing them to survive in low-oxygen environments. Due to their fast growth and hardiness, they are commonly farmed for food in aquaculture systems across Africa and beyond.
