ADAMTS Family
The ADAMTS family consists of a group of proteins known as ADAMTS (A Disintegrin and Metalloproteinase with Thrombospondin Motifs). These proteins play crucial roles in the degradation of extracellular matrix components, which are essential for tissue remodeling and repair. They are involved in various biological processes, including angiogenesis, wound healing, and cell migration.
There are several members of the ADAMTS family, each with specific functions. For example, ADAMTS-1 is known for its role in inhibiting blood vessel formation, while ADAMTS-5 is important for breaking down aggrecan, a key component of cartilage. Dysregulation of these proteins can contribute to various diseases, including osteoarthritis and cancer.
