船越義珍
船越義珍 (Funakoshi Gichin) was a prominent Japanese martial artist, known as the father of modern 空手 (karate). Born in 1868, he played a crucial role in popularizing karate in Japan and later around the world. Funakoshi emphasized the importance of character development and discipline in martial arts, integrating these values into his teachings.
In 1936, he founded the 日本空手協会 (Nihon Karate Kyokai) and introduced karate to the Japanese education system. His book, 空手道 (Karate-Do: My Way of Life), outlines his philosophy and techniques, influencing countless practitioners. Funakoshi's legacy continues to shape karate today.
