The Parthenon is an ancient temple located on the Acropolis of Athens, Greece. It was dedicated to the goddess Athena, who was considered the protector of the city. Built between 447 and 432 BC, the Parthenon is a prime example of Classical Greek architecture, showcasing the use of Doric columns and intricate sculptures.
The temple housed a massive statue of Athena made of gold and ivory, known as the Athena Parthenos. The Parthenon also served as a symbol of the power and culture of the Athenian empire. Today, it remains a significant archaeological site and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
