Πόντιους
The term "Πόντιοι" refers to the Greek people who originate from the region of Pontus, located on the southern coast of the Black Sea. Historically, they have a rich cultural heritage that includes unique traditions, music, and cuisine. The Pontic Greeks have their own dialect, known as Pontic Greek, which is distinct from standard Modern Greek.
During the early 20th century, many Πόντιοι faced significant challenges, including the Pontic Genocide and forced migrations. Today, they are found in various countries, particularly in Greece and Turkey, where they continue to celebrate their cultural identity through festivals and community events.
