Gustav III was the King of Sweden from 1771 until his assassination in 1792. He is known for his efforts to strengthen the monarchy and promote the arts, including the establishment of the Swedish Academy. His reign is often associated with the cultural movement known as the Gustavian style, which emphasized neoclassical design in architecture and furniture.
Gustav III also played a significant role in Swedish politics, implementing reforms that modernized the government. He was involved in several military conflicts, including the Russo-Swedish War of 1788-1790. His reign ended abruptly when he was shot at a masquerade ball, leading to his death shortly after.
