zen
Zen is a school of Mahayana Buddhism that emphasizes meditation and direct experience over theoretical knowledge. It originated in China as Chan Buddhism and later spread to Japan, where it became known as Zen. Practitioners focus on mindfulness and being present in the moment, often through seated meditation called zazen.
The core teachings of Zen encourage individuals to observe their thoughts and feelings without attachment or judgment. This practice aims to cultivate a sense of inner peace and clarity, helping individuals to understand the nature of reality and their own existence. Zen also values simplicity and spontaneity in daily life.
