spermatids
Spermatids are the haploid cells that develop from spermatocytes during the process of spermatogenesis, which occurs in the male reproductive system. They contain half the number of chromosomes compared to the original spermatogonia, making them essential for sexual reproduction.
These cells undergo further maturation to become spermatozoa, the fully developed sperm cells capable of fertilizing an egg. Spermatids are characterized by their round shape and lack of a tail, which they develop later in the maturation process.
