Spermatogenesis is the process by which male gametes, or sperm cells, are produced in the testes. It begins with spermatogonia, which are stem cells that undergo several stages of division and maturation. This process results in the formation of spermatids, which eventually develop into mature sperm cells.
The entire process of spermatogenesis takes about 64 to 72 days and involves several key stages: mitosis, where spermatogonia divide; meiosis, which reduces the chromosome number; and spermiogenesis, where spermatids transform into spermatozoa. The final product is a motile sperm cell capable of fertilizing an egg.
