shin splints
Shin splints, medically known as medial tibial stress syndrome, refer to pain along the inner edge of the shinbone (tibia). This condition often occurs in athletes and active individuals due to repetitive stress on the leg muscles, tendons, and bone. Common causes include running on hard surfaces, improper footwear, and sudden increases in activity level.
Symptoms of shin splints typically include tenderness, soreness, or pain in the lower leg, especially during physical activities. Treatment usually involves rest, ice application, and stretching exercises. In some cases, using orthotic devices or adjusting training routines may help prevent recurrence.
