scleritis
Scleritis is an inflammation of the sclera, the white outer layer of the eye. It can cause redness, pain, and sensitivity to light. This condition may be associated with autoimmune diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis or lupus, and can affect one or both eyes.
There are different types of scleritis, including anterior and posterior scleritis, which refer to the location of the inflammation. Diagnosis typically involves a thorough eye examination and may require imaging tests. Treatment often includes anti-inflammatory medications and, in some cases, corticosteroids to reduce inflammation and alleviate symptoms.
