Episcleritis
Episcleritis is an inflammation of the episclera, the thin layer of tissue covering the white part of the eye. It often appears as a red or pink patch on the eye and can cause mild discomfort, but it usually does not affect vision. The condition is often self-limiting and may resolve on its own within a few weeks.
The exact cause of episcleritis is often unknown, but it can be associated with systemic conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis or inflammatory bowel disease. Treatment typically involves the use of anti-inflammatory medications to relieve symptoms and reduce inflammation.
