medial rectus
The medial rectus is one of the six extraocular muscles responsible for eye movement. It is located on the inner side of the eye and primarily functions to move the eye inward, towards the nose. This muscle plays a crucial role in coordinating eye movements, especially during activities like reading or focusing on nearby objects.
Innervated by the oculomotor nerve, the medial rectus is essential for proper binocular vision. Dysfunction or weakness in this muscle can lead to conditions such as strabismus, where the eyes do not align properly, affecting depth perception and overall vision clarity.
