Inferior Rectus
The Inferior Rectus is one of the six extraocular muscles responsible for eye movement. It is located at the bottom of the eye and primarily functions to depress the eyeball, allowing it to look downward. This muscle also assists in adduction, which is the movement of the eye toward the nose.
Innervated by the oculomotor nerve, the Inferior Rectus plays a crucial role in coordinating eye movements. Proper functioning of this muscle is essential for activities such as reading and looking at objects below eye level. Dysfunction can lead to difficulties in visual tracking and alignment.
