jagir
A jagir is a land grant given by a ruler to a noble or military officer in historical India. This system allowed the jagirdar, or landholder, to collect taxes and manage the land, while the ruler retained ultimate ownership. Jagirs were often granted in exchange for military service or loyalty.
The jagir system was prominent during the Mughal Empire and continued in various forms under later rulers. It played a significant role in the administration and economy of the region, influencing local governance and land management practices throughout Indian history.
