gracile fasciculus
The gracile fasciculus is a bundle of nerve fibers located in the spinal cord. It is part of the dorsal column-medial lemniscus pathway, which is responsible for transmitting sensory information, particularly touch and proprioception, from the lower body to the brain. This pathway helps the brain understand the position and movement of the body.
The gracile fasciculus specifically carries signals from the lower limbs and lower trunk. It ascends through the spinal cord and synapses in the medulla oblongata, where the information is relayed to the thalamus and then to the cerebral cortex for processing.
