Cuneate Fasciculus
The Cuneate Fasciculus is a bundle of nerve fibers located in the spinal cord. It carries sensory information from the upper body, including the arms and hands, to the brain. This pathway is part of the larger dorsal column-medial lemniscus pathway, which is essential for transmitting touch, pressure, and proprioceptive sensations.
The Cuneate Fasciculus originates from sensory neurons in the dorsal root ganglia and ascends through the spinal cord. It synapses in the cuneate nucleus of the medulla oblongata before sending signals to the thalamus and then to the sensory cortex of the brain, allowing for the perception of fine touch and body position.
