ephod
An ephod is a type of garment worn by ancient Hebrew priests, particularly associated with the service in the Tabernacle and later the Temple in Jerusalem. It is typically described as a sleeveless vest made of fine linen, adorned with various colors and materials, and often featuring two onyx stones on its shoulders, which bore the names of the twelve tribes of Israel.
In addition to its ceremonial function, the ephod was also used in divination practices, particularly through the Urim and Thummim, which were kept in a pouch attached to the ephod. This allowed the high priest to seek divine guidance on important matters.
