element 114
Element 114, known as flerovium, is a synthetic element in the periodic table with the symbol Fl and atomic number 114. It was first created in 1998 by a team of Russian and American scientists at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna, Russia. Flerovium is classified as a post-transition metal and is part of the group 14 elements, which also includes carbon, silicon, germanium, and lead.
Due to its instability, flerovium has no significant commercial applications and is produced in very small amounts. Its most stable isotope, Fl-289, has a half-life of about 2.6 seconds, making it challenging to study. Research on flerovium helps scientists understand the properties of superheavy elements and the limits of the periodic table.
