dorsal column-medial lemniscus pathway
The dorsal column-medial lemniscus pathway is a neural pathway in the central nervous system responsible for transmitting sensory information related to touch, vibration, and proprioception. It begins in the peripheral nerves, where sensory receptors detect stimuli and send signals to the spinal cord.
Once in the spinal cord, the signals travel up the dorsal columns to the brainstem, where they synapse in the medial lemniscus. From there, the information is relayed to the thalamus and then to the somatosensory cortex of the brain, allowing for the perception of sensory information.
